Beirut | Brand Spankin’ New Video for “Elephant Gun”

“Elephant Gun” – Beirut
Huzzah! Why I wasn’t counting down the days for this video’s official release, I’ll never know. After all, I am quite a serious Zach Condon/Beirut fan: he’s a good reason behind my costly trip to SXSW 2007, and my incoherent musings about 2006’s Gulag Orkestar have more than once turned friends’ eyes glossy with boredom. But let’s face it, people — Balkan-music-turned-orchestral-indie is incredibly hot. It has the ability to transport a listener to a parallel world with a heaping helping of summer breezes, moustaches so dense they make you cry “mommy”, and pants caked with the dirt of a hard day’s sojourn in the fields. Hot. Seriously, don’t underestimate the powerful charm of a simple ukelele.
So without any further babble, here it is, a new video from Beirut, filmed in L.A. this past March with the aid of some elephant-trunk-toting fans and wacko experimental dancers.

i’m actually not sure — i read somewhere that it was a flugelhorn, but i can’t confirm that. the playing-on-its-side trait is a bit intriguing.
yeah, i can’t stop watching this video. sigh.
